Between Charming Friends...

Kelly, of Charming Chatter,
Home of the Charming Guys & Girls Quilt Club
is hosting a

I have sewn my 12 little 4-patches and added borders.

...on to the 16-patch blocks.
I need to make 20 of them.
Lots of sewing 1.5-inch strips,
cutting strips apart, and
sewing them back together again.
It's just what we "do." :-D
Each square in the 16 patch will measure 1-inch... in theory! ;-)

Have a good afternoon!

Blue Monday...

Okay, so lavender isn't technically blue...
but our southwest skies were a beautiful cloudless blue
the day I visited a local lavender farm. ;-)

... and our luncheon tablecloth has some pretty blue.
After our walking tour of a local lavender farm, lunch was served.
We began with minted water and a glass of lemonade
infused with lavender, colored with red hibiscus.

An assortment of baked breads was offered with
sweet cream butter or herbed butter.

Our luncheon plate included herb-encrusted roasted pork loin,
fresh lettuces and tomatoes from the garden, and
penne pasta with fresh pesto.

For dessert,
a lavender shortbread iced cookie filled with apricot jam
and a dish of lavender ice cream.
It was divine...

There were a few hundred lavender plants at this farm,
and the owner had just put in 80 olive trees.

She had a variety of herbs in her garden and a small vegetable garden.
I had never seen an artichoke bush... have you?

Our hostess especially loved hollyhocks.
They were beautiful!

the perfect ending...

... to a nice day and a great pizza!
More about the pizza below...

This was the view
out my kitchen window.
The dishes could wait...
I grabbed my camera and
headed out to the backyard and
watched the sky as the colors
changed within a matter of minutes.

...and now, about that pizza.

When participating in "Blue Monday" with Smiling Sally, one is encouraged to visit all the participants to see what particular "blue" they have decided to share.

The blog One Perfect Bite shared a Tomato, Herb and Blue Cheese Pizza for Blue Monday just yesterday, June 7th. After reading Mary's recipe, I knew I had to try it. It is/was wonderful, and Mr. BL loved it, too! I had never tried a pizza using Blue Cheese. The only change I made to Mary's recipe was to make my own pizza dough. It is one I have been making for years and years from a recipe by Wolfgang Puck.

Thanks for this recipe, Mary.
It was delicious!

Blue Monday...

It's Blue Monday.

Please visit Smiling Sally
and the other Blue Monday participants.
Finally, I can post! Blogger was having some problems today.

The embroidered linen table cover
was purchased at an estate sale a few years ago.
I love vintage linens, and this one was a real bargain.

The table is set...
Will you join me?

A slice of lemon poppy seed bread?
Or perhaps chocolate chocolate chip bread?

Orange juice or cranberry juice?

Thimbleberries top...

Finished this top this morning... now to decide on a quilting pattern.

I got this book a few months ago and
am thinking I may try hand-quilting the top.
Wish me luck!

Have a good afternoon... Karen
