Chincoteague Island, Virginia

Thanks for stopping by today,
and I hope you enjoy my photos...
(click each photo to enlarge)

These are from our stay on
Chincoteague Island.

Assateague Lighthouse
Over 300 wild ponies live along Assateague Island.
Forty thousand visitors travel to watch the
Chincoteague Pony swim which has occurred since 1925.
The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department
began to hold its annual carnival in 1925
with an auction of some of the ponies after the swim.

We had lunch at Bill's Seafood Restaurant.
DH had a soft crab sandwich...

I opted for the chicken salad with Yukon Gold fries.

The following are just a few of the 300 or so
species of birds identified on the
Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
I was thrilled to get to see
and photograph some of these birds.
We stopped here along the road
because of a lot of activity.
I heard a familiar squawk across the road.

Then I spotted this bird slightly hidden.
So I waited.

Great Blue Heron

The morning of our departure,
we got up early and headed to the beach.

The marshes were misty...

... the sunrise beautiful.

Have a wonderful day,
Karen

We've visited Chincoteague several times, once we were even there for the pony crossing. It is a cute little town and park, your photos are great.
