baking and birding...

No sewing for me today but I had a great day anyway!

DH has been pestering me for a pie... a blueberry pie. Don't these berries look yummy? Here's the recipe:

Blueberries and Cream Pie

1 unbaked pastry shell

4 c. blueberries (2 pts.)
2/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. heavy whipping cream

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Rinse and sort blueberries. After the berries have drained and are somewhat dry, pour them into the pastry shell. In small bowl combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in the milk and whipping cream, whisking until smooth. Pour over the berries and bake for 45 minutes.

The birding commenced at 7 a.m. this morning when we drove to a local 52-acre city-owned wetland. It is home to many species of birds and is a stop on a migratory route for many more. The most exciting bird I saw this morning was a Northern Harrier, a medium-sized hawk. It sure didn't look medium-sized to me! I failed to get a picture of it but saw it through my binoculars and also the scope of a National Audubon Society guide there to help with bird identification.

Here are some of the pictures I took this morning.

Finally, here is my tribute to
Louis Comfort Tiffany's
"A View of Oyster Bay"
that I did a couple of years ago..
but I had to add a couple of cranes.

Progress today...

The inside of my wall hanging is complete!
I just need to add the borders. It has been a great day of sewing.

Thimbleberries Sew Day!

Welcome to my new blog!

My first post invites you to a Thimbleberries Sew Day, hosted by my good friend crazy'boutquilts, the last Wednesday of every month. I don't have any Thimbleberries fabric, at the moment, but I do have books! Last night I looked through the few that I have and found this pattern, "Shining Star," in the book, The Thimbleberries Guide for Weekend Quilters. I will check my stash this morning to find the perfect fabrics and post a pic of what I find.

And here are my fabrics...
